In here, a best friend tries to understand everything that's occurred, and figure out what to do in this brave new world where Kurt Hummel is no longer the Kurt Hummel she knows, and everyone, including her, feels crippling guilt over letting it all happen.

( Mercedes narrowed her eyes, turning back to face the double doors that lead into William McKinley High School. She tapped into that rage she felt when she first saw Kurt on that stretcher, looking almost dead, blue-lipped and bright red blood coating his head. Her head jerked up, her hands following Puck's example as they clenched into fists, pulling on her bruises. It was a comforting sort of pain. )

(  Kurt was a strong kid but (it broke something inside him to admit this, even just in his thoughts) he wasn't sure if this was something that Kurt could just pack away and move on from. In fact, he knew that that couldn't be the case. Kurt was going to be hurting long after the bruises and cuts faded away. )

In here, there's much reflection on Kurt's stay in the hospital, many visits from friends (both old and new), and a father's thoughts on whether not things will ever be normal again.

( They'd brought Kurt home from the hospital at around nine that morning and Burt, despite several hours of being back in his own house, everyone present and accounted for, couldn't quite make peace with the idea that the worst was over with. Some part of his mind was still in that plain white room, with his unconscious son. He didn't think he'd ever be able to shake that off - not ever. )

In here, whatever was left of Kurt's illusions of safety are completely shattered, but things have already begun to change around him . . . he's just not sure how he feels about that anymore.

In here, a wallflower sees more than others do, sees the danger to Kurt before anyone else . . .  and tries to do something before it's too late.

Warning: The violence comes out in this chapter - it isn't fully described, but it is there, and heavily implied besides.

( A part of her marvelled at Kurt's ability to rally himself and still keep on fighting. Another part of her was mentally yelling 'Shut up, idiot, and stop drawing attention to yourself!' But, then again, even barely knowing him, since when had Kurt Hummel ever been afraid to draw attention to himself? )

In this part, a day in the life of a bully, and the formation of a plan . . . that unfortunately centres on Kurt.

Warning: This chapter contains quite a lot of homophobic words and content, due to the point of view it is written in.

( Hummel never really seemed too scared of them. Mostly he just got pissed or annoyed. A few times he seemed almost . . . like he just accepted it or something. Which, good, nice to know he understood his place in the grand order of things, but the little prick didn't even try to dress down or call less attention to himself. )

In here, two best friends reconnect, and yet one more person is let in on Kurt's secret . . .
